Castlefield Gallery staff and friends joined us at Low Parkamoor for the second stage of the labour swap, part of 'To Left of the Rising Sun' exhibition at Castlefield Gallery in Mancester. We hosted the gallery director, curator, technical team, volunteers and friend Audrey who we met in the audience of the gallery talk earlier in the month. All walked up the hill carrying food, water, tools, etc to the house for two days of working (mixed with fire tending/eating/walking). It felt like something between a national trust work party, company staff away day, and commune. We did get some work done, and it successfully tested the notion that the consumption of the landscape/views and experience so much a part of the tourist economy can be utilised in exchange for locally useful production. Potentially one future economic exchange that will help Grizedale Arts run the project - (e.g As there is no mobile phone signal could they use the profusion of mountain bikers to carry messages across the ridge between the two farm houses etc....)
