Architel

Architel is a proposal for a hybrid business model to challenge the current market-led structures in place for architects and designers by combining an emerging architects practice with a rentable hotel room. Adopting techniques from cultural support structures such as a gallery assisted by a cafe or bookshop, the additional income source aims to facilitate more creative productions from the commercial design sector.

The system is inspired by the 1950's exhibition 'Case Study Houses' by Arts and Architecture Magazine, which generated the pre-fabricated Eames House by Charles and Ray Eames. Architel reinterprets a related design, the self-assembly Eames Storage Unit, to produce an enclosed hotel room inside an office from multiple wall units.
